Hanna Somatic Workshop Series

Primitive reflexes, originating in our brain, contract our muscles in response to the stresses (good and bad) and traumas of day to day life - that is inevitable. Over time, these reflex patterns become habit, and our brain stops returning our muscles to a state of relaxation at the end of the day - this causes the stiffness, aches and pains in our back, joints and limbs that we have come to accept as the aging process. Contracted muscles restrict movement and distort posture. The slow, gentle movements of Hanna Somatics are designed to restore voluntary control over these habituated muscle patterns. As you learn to sense and move your muscles in a new way, you will increase your comfort, your range of motion, and you will feel more whole and alive. In addition, you will learn a brief movement routine, to sustain and continue your progress on your own. Whether you are 18 or 80, this simple movement series will restore the way your muscles should function, and allow your body to move with more ease and grace, regardless of your physical fitness. You will experience results in every class.

In a Hanna Somatic Workshop series, you will be guided through simple movement explorations designed to override restrictive muscle patterns:
Back & Abdominal Muscles - Reverse/eliminate/prevent the cause of chronic backaches and extreme pain. Learn proper, and more comfortable, sitting posture.
Waist & Trunk Rotation Muscles - Feel taller, breathe easier, reach, turn and move with more flexibility and comfort.
Shoulders and Hip Joints - Arms will swing freely, and hips will glide with more ease and comfort.
Hips, Buttocks, Legs, Knees & Feet - Your legs will feel more whole and alive.
Hamstrings - Releasing tight hamstrings increases back comfort.
Neck/Shoulder Muscles - Turn your head, neck and shoulders more freely.
Breathing - Breathe more fully as you learn to control your diaphragm.
Walking - Learn to utilize the muscles you have released in the previous classes to walk the way nature intended - with ease and comfort.
